The fantastic image (below) of pin-up girl and Super-model Adriana Lima, is one of my favorite images of her.
This image was created by the greatest and most famous (as far as I'm concerned) Fashion Photographer of them all: Ellen von Unwerth...but more about this amazing photographer later...
According to wikipedia:
"A pin-up girl or pin-up model is a model whose mass-produced pictures see wide appeal as pop culture. Pin-ups are intended for informal display. Pin-up girls are glamour models, fashion models, and actresses. Pin-up may also refer to drawings, paintings and other illustrations done in emulation of these photos. The term was first attested to in English in 1941... "...Pin Up images could be cut out of magazines or newspapers,or be from postcards or chromo-lithographs, and so on.
Such photos often appear on calendars, which are meant to be pinned up anyway. Later, posters of pin-up girls were mass-produced..." (Well...that was according to wikipedia...As far as I'm concerned, any Beautiful image of a Beautiful woman, can be classified as a pin-up girl image...)
I think that the image above, of the beautiful modern pin-up girl Irusika (as photographed by Portland Studios) is an excellent example of the impact that a Black and White image can have...even in Glamour Photography.
The sense of movement and action, the model's 'out of the ordinary pose' and her sensual expression, makes this one of my all-time favorite Pin-Up-Girl images.

Adriana have in the past often been called 'The World's Sexiest Woman...and for good reason. Believe it or not, at one stage in her life she wanted to become a nun! Thank Goodness she never did...Halleluja!

The vast majority of original paintings of "old-time" pin-up girls are of course in private collections nowadays...
And the ones that are not, are very hard to get hold of, and very expensive!
The ability of pin-up artists to create delightful images of beautiful young women, (mostly in sexy retro lingerie...of course!) were amazing.

Like many of Gil's paintings, a stunning Redhead is the focus of attraction.
And...as is often the case with his work... there are hidden sexual messages, in the painting!
To see what I mean, have a close look at the expression on the face of the bear… ( Even though it’s dead! )
