Dark Gothic Art: A World of Mystery...

The Morrigan: a Dark Gothic Art painting created by Aly Fell

Alistair (Aly) Fell's dark gothic art style painting of The Morrigan above...is my alltime favorite artwork on the subject of the Morrigan legend...

And this work of art is also very typical of the Dark Gothic Art style...mystical...and strange... There are many good works of art about the Morrigan, but this one I like the most, by far. (Note: The image above is a cropped version of the original painting)

(By the way...The Morrigan ( or phantom queen) is a goddess of battle, strife, and fertility . it is said that she sometimes appears in the form of a crow, flying above the warriors, and in the Ulster cycle she also takes the form of an eel, a wolf, and a cow. She is generally considered a war deity comparable with the Germanic Valkyries, although her association with cattle also suggests a role connected with fertility, wealth, and the land)

Aly Fell is a concept artist, illustrator, and animator with more than 20 years experience. He was the lead animator and character designer for "Origin of the Species" at Nu-Generation Games, and with his personal exhibition and competition work, he has established himself as a leading light in the world of dark gothic art and fantasy art.

Aly says this about himself: "I draw girls, wear black and love my wife."

The Oracle by Marta Dahlig

The Oracle: a Dark Gothic Art painting created by Marta Dahlig

The Enchanting and Secretive world of Dark Gothic Art
is an amazing place to explore...

And on this page there are some of the most amazing images of beautiful women, from that wonderful, mystical and enchanting world. This page is dedicated to all the great artists whose work is shown here...in each case the artists website is referenced... And remember...you will always see the bigger (and much more) pictures by visiting those websites...(WimmA) Luxury For me the mysterious, secretive, dark and somewhat sinister digital painting above, called "The Oracle" by Marta Dahlig, is just about the perfect image to start this page on Dark Gothic Art. ( By the way, Marta is also known as "blackeri" in the deviant art community)

Here is a comment about Marta from deviantart.com: "Marta (blackeri) Dahlig has been with deviantart since early 2003 and in that time has become one of the most recognizable faces on the site, creating instantly identifiable pieces, such as her near legendary seven deadly sins line, as well as dozens upon dozens of other exquisitely crafted pieces of art.

In an ocean of millions it is not easy to stand out like she does, and even more impressive is that she still finds the time to let everyone know she appreciates their feedback, and even better, takes time to make sure she goes and adds her own feedback to up and coming artists and gives encouraging words of advice where needed. So go and say hello and check out her stunning work, (blackeri.deviantart.com) and give her a congrats for being as devious as it gets...!"

You can check out more of Marta's great talent and more of her dark gothic art on her blog www.dahlig.blogspot.com. She is a freelance artist currently residing in Warsaw, Poland.

Shamans Loss by Donato Giancola

Shamans Loss: a Dark Gothic Art painting created by Donato Giancola

Whether the dramatic and powerful paintings of Donato Giancola
can be described as dark gothic art, I'm not so sure...
but one thing is certain:

This man's artistic talent is incredible, and in my humble opinion, his equal does not exist on this planet... (If you love the movie-trilogy "Lord of the Rings", then here is your artist...)

He has a list of awards and clients that never ends, and his works will be found from your local game shop to the great museums of the world. The dramatic and intense Dark Gothic Art of Donato Giancola is truly magnificent and spectacular...The tragic and sad painting above is called "Shamans Loss". The way in which he paints the waters and shorelines of the oceans is particularly striking to me, and to me he is one of the greatest painters alive today.

The biography below is from Donato's website www.donatoart.com, be sure to check it out for more dark gothic art style paintings! (especially check out the FAQ section...it's fascinating!)

Born in 1967 and raised in Colchester, Vermont, USA, art was always a hobby for Donato as a young man, he would steal away into the basement of his parents' home to work on drawings, create his own maps for the game Dungeons & Dragons, paint figurines, read comics, and construct model tanks and dinosaurs. His love of imaginative play dominated his childhood, both indoors and out. At the age of twenty Donato enrolled in his first formal art class, the beginning of his professional training. Immediately after graduating Summa Cum Laude with a BFA in Painting from Syracuse University in 1992, Donato moved to New York City to immerse himself in the inspired and varied art scene. (More about this wonderful artist a little later...)

Black Widow by Jason Chan

a Dark Gothic Art painting created by Jason Chan

The Dark Gothic Art style of the young Jason Chan (born 1983)
is unmistakable, wonderful and weird, unique, captivating,
clean, uncluttered and often quite disturbing...

And it is also in complete contrast to the classical style of Donato Giancola... To me Jason is one of the greatest Fantasy Art artists of modern times, and I am defenitely one of his greatest fans and admirers! The way that Jason creates impact, intensity and drama through his images, is remarkable, and his use if deep, rich colors and light is absolutely brilliant.
The strangely weird and peculiarly distorted image Black Widow (above) of a young girl with a knife, sitting on a chair, ready to kill somebody...(I suppose) is much more recognizable as the work of Jason Chan, than his more mainstream, but still very beautiful painting of a girl and a lion further down this page. (It is also more in the dark gothic art style, I would say...)

Nevertheless...I just love Jason's unique approach, and hope to dedicate a complete page on my-pin-up-girl.com, to him exclusively...soon... Be sure to check out the rest of Jason's amazing dark gothic art on his website at www.jasonchanart.com

The extract below is Jason's words about himself, from his website:

"My name is Jason Chan and I like to draw :)

I was born and raised in Stockton, California in 1983. After high school I moved out to San Francisco to study 3D animation at the Academy of Art University, but promptly changed my major to illustration and graduated in the Spring of 06. I am now working at Massive Black.

As I said, I love to draw. Ever since I was a kid I've always been drawing characters for make believe video games, cartoons and comics. I also loved drawing my favorite X-men characters, warcraft heroes, and video game sprites. I drew a million Mega Man and Mario drawings. As I grew up, that love for video games and fantasy never left me. I grew to love fantasy novels and that inspired my work. Many of my favorite video games were japanese made so as I drew the characters from those games, I began to fall for the anime style. Of course, that lead me to watch anime - an addiction I still haven't been able to shake. After a couple of yearsof horrible attempts at manga style art, I began school in San Francisco and actually got some decent life drawing and anatomy practice. I began to to be exposed to some of the western masters such as Sargent, Leyendecker, Rockwell, and Frazetta. I embraced the esthetics of western art and tried to improve myself in that direction. Now I am trying to marry my western art education with my eastern art interest and see what happens.

I'm still trying. We'll see what happens."

All I can add, is: "Great Stuff Jason!...keep up the Good Work...especially the Dark Gothic Art..." (WimmA)

Gladius by Gerald Brom

Gladius: a Dark Gothic Art painting created by Gerald Brom

The artwork above is by Gerald Brom, a master of Dark Gothic Art.

What more can one say about this guy's awesome talent... I am defenitely going to devote one complete page to his amazing work soon, here on my-pin-up-girl.com.

The fantastic story below has been written by him and is from his website: www.bromart.com. Be sure to check it out...it's freakin' awesome!

"The Gobbly Dog

Time has left few clear memories from when I was four years old, but there is one recollection that has not faded. I remember drawing a three-headed dog in the dirt with a stick; an awful thing - this beast - all fangs and fire. I was scribbling away with all the intensity of Dr. Frankenstein in his lab when the Devil hopped up on a rock to watch. Save on Cameras and Camcorders at Abt "What'cha working on, kiddo?" The Devil asked.

I paused and looked up at the wiry goat legged fellow. "A gobbly dog," I said matter-of-factly then returned to drawing.

The Devil stroked his goatee and murmured, "A gobbly dog …eh?"

After finishing up the eyes and fangs I looked back up and said, "A gobbly dog will eat'ch whole body up y'know, 'cept for your ears of course. Gobbly dogs don't like ears. That is how you can know if a gobbly dog ate someone, 'cause all that'd be left is two bloody ears."

That Devil stared at my drawing then at me. Peered hard he did. I could feel his eyeballs snooping deep into my soul and then I witnessed a shudder creep from his horns right down to the tip of his pointed tail.

"Son …," he said, "that head of yours is plum filled up with monsters. Why I'd venture to say you got more monsters hidden away in there than I have in all the pits of hell."

I remember smiling at this, thinking it a right nice thing to say to someone.

The Devil scratched his noggin, "Son …with all of God's good beauty in the world, why would any youngen want to draw such monstrosities?" n woman My brows knitted together as I put this to serious contemplation. After a spell I shrugged my shoulders all the way up to my ears and said, " 'cus I like 'em," and went back to drawing my gobbly dog.

That old Devil continued to watch me draw for a while. His saggy face seated in those great big hands of his. I seem to remembering him letting out a long tired sigh at some point and then just wandering on off. Ain't seen hide nor horn of him since."

"Thanks for that cute and intriguing story Gerald... You are truly one of the masters of Dark Gothic Art, in my opinion..." (WimmA)

Pearls by Michael Mobius

Pearls: a Dark Gothic Art painting by Michael Mobius

Michael Mobius (www.moebiusart.com) is a famous and great artist with a sophisticated, unique, precise and clean,
Modern-day Dark Gothic Art style...

I think Michael talks about his work and himself, better than anyone else can...see below:

"Through the use of intelligent light and shadow I strive to create sensual moments in time that portray a heightened sense of reality. My work is about the mystery of emotion and the power of expression.

I have always been fascinated with natural movement and form. As a small child, my first paintings were of animals and muscular comic book characters. As I matured, naturally my admiration evolved into the most elegant of form, the female form.

Looking for direction, I found myself instantly drawn to the pinup works of Sorayama whose style and techniques were amazing to me. I was instantly inspired to teach myself the ability to create art as unique and powerful as his. As can be seen in my early paintings, the work of Hajime Sorayama was instrumental in helping me create the early building blocks of my own unique style. I tried to capture the composition he mastered yet with the addition of my own cleaner lines and softer form. Even though Sorayama's style was an inspiration, the largest influence on me as an artist has come from Renato Casaro..." (To be continued below...Here is some more spectacular dark gothic art by Jason Chan...)

Geist by Jason Chan

An image of a Girl and a Lion: Dark Gothic Art by Jason Chan

Michael Mobius, continued:

"As a native of East Germany life became very different for me when the wall came down. For the first time, we were able to view American and European movies and with those movies came my introduction to movie posters. By far the greatest movie artist is that of Renato Casaro. Witnessing his paintings would change my work forever. After sending a letter of admiration I felt would never be returned, I was surprised to be contacted by Casaro himself and afforded a meeting. Seeing his originals and being allowed to witness his techniques in person was a gift that I can never reciprocate. Learning the use of atmosphere and expression to build mood and character has had the largest affect on my work. For a painting to be great, it needs to exist on many different levels. You need to feel the expression and be touched by the emotions the painting is communicating. These lessons, as well as his positive influence and friendship, have helped me to develop as both a person and an artist. I will be forever grateful.

I find my greatest new inspiration to be photography and the realistic life it portrays. Fashion and the models that display its beauty fascinate me. I am challenged by the difficulty of creating images that portray a heightened reality yet still posses the honesty of the moment. My goal is not to paint pretty women but to visually communicate the beauty of the female form and the power of a sensual moment. I find inspiration in the natural light of the morning and the soft shadows of the afternoon. All of these moments are my muse and help me to create my paintings. Most importantly I would like to thank my parents for all their love and support, because without them I would never have had the courage to succeed."

A Maestro in the sensual modern dark gothic art style...

Prohibited by Luis Royo

Sexy Dark Gothic Art by Luis Royo

And then of course there remains the greatest
Fantasy-/Dark Gothic Art Painter who ever lived:
Luis Royo...

I have said this before, and I will say it again: Beautiful Women...and Luis Royo are the two main reasons why I decided to create my-pin-up-girl.com Royo's ability to capture the essence, drama, beauty and sexuality of a woman, is phenomenal, and I am probably his greatest fan!...(WimmA)

The captivating image (above) of a very sexy and beautiful, but sad and hurt young redhead woman in silk lingerie, is typical of the dark gothic art style of this great Spanish artist. Royo here once again uses the harshness of a cruel and unforgiving environment, to contrast sharply with the tenderness and fragility of a stunning young woman. As always...only Royo himself will ever really know the origin and real story behind his work...

The rest of us can only observe...imagine...admire...and wonder...

Let's drink to Dark Gothic Art!...and Great Artists!...
